Eliminate Bullying and Save

11 August 2005

Former Victorian Premier Jeff Kennett and Sex Discrimination Commissioner Prue Goward will be among the speakers at a national conference on workplace bullying in October.

Bullying costs bosses between $17 and $37 billion every year and the theme of the Melbourne conference is "Pay Attention or Pay the Price".

Victorian Trades Hall Council Occupational Health and Safety Officer Cathy Butcher, who will speak at the conference, said feedback from recent training sessions on Victoria's new OHS legislation showed bullying was a widespread issue.

"Its something across all industries, all workplaces and all occupations - one union rep said it was like and epidemic," Butcher said.

"It's important that employers sit up and take notice of bullying not just because of the cost, but because of the stress and psychological problems it places on employees."

The conferece will be held on Monday October 31 at the Carlton Crest Hotel and Conference Centre.
