Workers' Safety Contribution Recognised

16 June 2005

Workers who help to make workplaces safe will have a chance to be recognised at the 2005 WorkCover NSW Safe Work Awards.

Employees who contribute to safety save companies hundreds of thousands of dollars, according to Unions NSW occupational health and safety officer Mary Yaager.

"These awards are a chance for those workers to get the recognition they deserve," she said.

The awards are made up of six categories:

  • Best solution to an identified workplace health and safety issue
  • Best solution to a workplace manual handling hazard
  • Best workplace health and safety management system
  • Best workplace health and safety practices in a small business
  • Workplace Safety Champion - small business or organisation
  • Workplace Safety Champion - medium/large business or organisation

80 entries were received last year with 27 entrants making the finals.

Three WorkCover NSW Safe Work Awards winners will automatically be in the running for national honours. These awards are best solution to an identified workplace health and safety issue; best workplace health and safety management system and best workplace health and safety practises in a small business.

Nominations close Friday, July 22.
