Premier Carr Stops Tricky Lawyers15 May 2003Unscrupulous lawyers using cheap advertising tricks and outrageous promises to win comp claim clients are about to have another loophole closed. NSW Premier Bob Carr says some plaintiff lawyers are trying to get around advertising restrictions the State Government put in place over the last two years. The restrictions are designed to limit the content and placement of advertisements relating to personal injury. But some lawyers continue to advertise with statements like 'From Crash to Cash', Carr says. "These types of advertisements can encourage spurious and unmeritorious claims, which cost our community time and money. "This is not on and the Government is set to impose further restrictions on the ability of lawyers using advertising to attract claims," he says. There will be changes to two regulations including the Legal Profession Regulation and the Workers Compensation (General) Regulation. "Lawyers will still be able to advertise legal services generally but they won't be able to advertise a shopping list of personal injury services," Carr says. The proposed changes to the regulations will now go to Executive Council for the Governor's approval. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
