Question

Is the employer required to advise the insurance company about accidents?

Answer

Yes, the employer must advise the insurance company within 48 hours, of becoming aware of a significant injury. A significant injury is an injury where a worker is required to have seven (7) days off work; this is usually certified in medical certificate.

The employer must notify the insurer within 48 hours.

In the event of any other injuries, i.e. those that have less than seven (7) days, an employer has seven days to inform the insurance company and forward all relevant documentation associated with that injury and that claim.
