- Bullying Factsheet 05 - What The Union Can Do
Unions view bullying as a form of workplace violence and a real risk to
health and safety.
Risks associated with bullying must be addressed in the
employer's risk management procedure. Your union can assist you in identifying,
assessing and controlling workplace risks arising out of bullying behaviour.
- Workplaces need to develop policies that address bullying behaviour. The union can
assist in the development of such a policy (refer to Fact Sheet 8 - Model Policy).
- The Union can provide the necessary training and information for members.
- The Union also provides the necessary services to deal with and resolve complaints.
- The Union will maintain confidentiality regarding all complaints and enquiries.
Never tolerate any form of bullying. Please contact your union if you feel that this is
happening to you.

- Support workmates
Don't accept bad behaviour
- Speak out against inappropriate behaviour
- Set good standards in dealing with others
- Develop workplace dispute settlement procedures
- Negotiate directly with the employer
- Ensure workplace policies and procedures are in place
- Include relevant OHS Clauses in enterprise agreements
- Conciliation and/or arbitration in industrial tribunals
- Do a risk assessment
- Prosecute employers for breaches of the OHS Act and Regulation
- Pursue cases in the Industrial Commission or other relevant jurisdictions
- Monitor claim histories to ensure no patterns developing
- Assist members in their workers compensation claims and rehabilitation
- Arrange for counselling.
